Notes on calendar

All the following guidance is to help you interpret what is on offer. Any doubts should be discussed with the organiser. I do my best to publish changes, cancellations etc.
Times - Start time usually fixed, End time often depends on amount of interest / general fatigue / need of sellers to bank their fortune (avoiding flying pigs en route).
Time in brackets is the set-up time for sellers.

If you are travelling a long way or feel a bit unsure, by all means contact the organiser. It is quite rare for an event to be cancelled but I expect organisers would contact me and I would immediately announce the changes in the news section; and here in red lettering. Information is checked as much as possible, edited according to organsisers' requests and given here in good faith.

Notes
At present the jumbles are probably not happening. To check you will need to contact them to avoid an unwanted journey.
About ........
Superb team of people who run a variety of third world, cycle transport linked
initiatives. One of their strands, [bikes 4 Africa]. is to acquire unwanted bikes, do them up and ship them off to Africa.
Their Jumble sales are on the second Saturday of the month (if they happen ..... see above).
Mostly the stuff is there. If you want to come and sell things, or bikes, please contact the organisers

Unfortunenately The organisation has been involved in a dispute with the Charity Commission. Though they are undoubtable in the right, the C.C have put their foot into the running and validity of Jolerider and associated charitable ventures. Bikes 4 Africa is still operating. It all seems a great shame.
Read about it here

2019 dates

Probably none - unless they change plan

NEXT Jolerider day UNKNOWN

The event below is not for sellers, but for would-be buyers
They are a charity involving getting bikes to those who need them, but who can't afford them.

Notes Very accessible place from all directions
This is run on behalf of Bygone Bykes, a regular event with changing venues.
At one of their events they had a ride, after the jumble and lots of chatter. As I was bikeless
I was invited to partake in their ride on a borrowed ordinary / "penny fathing".
It was December, snowing, gale force wind, at 1000 ft. above sea-level,
starting on the A?? Bradford to Halifax main road, at pub "out-time" and I'd never ridden one before.
That I declined is part of the reason why I am still around to type this. I would have been a bygone cyclist!

free with program

The York Rally is back for 2015, and with it the traditional Saddlebag Sale! Details: Website
(formerly the CTC York Rally it now run by a volunteer committee and not the CTC)
(It seems to be mixture of the "old CTC" and newer, more modern features : my words)
Sellers: 10 AM Tables £10.
50 tables available, first come first served.
Online table booking available on the website: www.yorkrally.org/saddlebag
Link to Saddlebag sale postal booking
Buyers: 11 AM Entry free with show programme (costs £1) else £1.
The whole event is non-profit making and is run entirely by volunteers - brilliant effort.
Notes on getting there
From the North : by car Suggest avoiding York centre, come off the A1(M) at the A59, follow that into York
then turn right into Dalton terrace just across Holgate Bridge (over the railway line), then right
again onto Tadcaster Rd, then left onto Knavesmire Rd.
From the south : by car simpler to come off the A64 and go down the A1036 Tadcaster Road, then turn right into Knavesmire Rd:
Previously suggested cycling route. From York Centre or Bishopthorpe
from South. Through Bishopthorpe itself. There's now a 20mph zone with some fairly harsh speed bumps.

Second such event at recently opened cycling pub. Regular events including Bike Jumbles.
All events will appear on thes website from now on.
They are planning to have quite regular jumbles.
Below is their mission :-
The Freewheel is the brainchild of Adrian Oliver, founder of Kent-based CyclingAge,
the organisation that delivers Bikeability for children in schools around Kent and adult
cycling training.
Adrian said "There are some great places for cyclists to stop around the county,
however I wanted to create a real oasis for them, a place they'd be welcome and
where they can park their cycles with confidence, re-hydrate, recover and refresh.
The Freewheel is an ideal place to engage with other cycling enthusiasts, watch major
cycling races on the large indoor screen, even get running repairs and services for
their trusty cycles. Finally, it's all about helping more people to ride more often"

Mulled wine, Bicycles and the perfect Christmas gifts

What better way to get you in the Christmas Spirit than a trip to The Freewheel Christmas Fair
and Bike Jumble on Saturday 21 November.

Starting at 9am and free to enter the fair will be packed with everything to do with bicycles
- both old and new. If you love bikes don't miss out on this unique event. It's also a great
opportunity for cycling enthusiasts across the South-East to come together and chat
about their love of bicycles, snap up a bargain or two and also pick up hard-to-find bike items.
The Bike Jumble traders will be selling a huge array of bicycle must haves, including vintage parts,
clothing, new and used essentials, frames and bikes.
We think we might have some perfect Christmas stocking fillers too,
which include; Pro Cycling Trump cards, Boneshaker Prints and copies of our regular magazines; Rouleur,
Boneshaker and the Ride. Food served all day
There will be plenty of locally produced food available all day.
To keep you warm we will be serving mulled wine, mince pies, turkey baps and for the
early risers there will be breakfast available all morning. Finally don't worry about
the weather forecast as the Christmas Fair and Bike Jumble will all be held inside a
marquee in the Freewheel garden - there will also be outdoor wood furnaces to keep you warm!

Look forward to seeing you on the 21st!

Helens Street. The Meeting House is on the right.

Approaching from the west, the A52, Ashbourne Road, where the road becomes a single

free with program

The York Rally is back for 2015, and with it the traditional Saddlebag Sale! Details: Website
(formerly the CTC York Rally it now run by a volunteer committee and not the CTC)
(It seems to be mixture of the "old CTC" and newer, more modern features : my words)
Sellers: 10 am Tables £10.
50 tables available, first come first served.
Online table booking available on the website [link > : www.yorkrally.org/saddlebag-sale]
Link to Saddlebag sale, enrtry, info & postal booking
Buyers: 11 AM Entry free with show programme (costs £1) else £1.
The whole event is non-profit making and is run entirely by volunteers - brilliant effort - SC.
